Coober Pedy

P1010114 After we ate a wonderful dawn once again due to fly indoors. Muesli toast and cheese - and of course instant coffee. We left as the second-last of the five campers the Roadhouse. Strangely, I was tired after two hours, and so tried today for the first time with Helen in the camper. So I went to the side and we swapped places. Helene went and oddly enough was my tiredness vanished. I sat cramped in the passenger seat and looked in my thoughts jump out of bushes every little animal.

P1010116 Over time, put my tension and Helen drove to a parking space. They showed great courage, as she took in third gear with our 2 ton vehicle the curve. My pulse jumped briefly back to their tolerance and. The camper does not tipped. We exchanged a little later than the courts and I went, under whose wide awake, the rest of the piece. We passed on this piece yet another boundary, Northern Territory - South Australia.

P1010118 Near Coober Pedy started the mole-like mounds from the floor to shoot. These are residual hills of the opal mines, which made this town famous. Warning signs hanging everywhere warn about to walk between the hills around. The whole area is undermined and perforated so that they can be quickly swallowed by the earth.

P1010128 We then drove into Coober Pedy and wanted to catch up with us * Information about the noodling ". This is the right of everyone, rest of the hills to search for opal. The law says all that is above the earth may be searched by all without mechanical help. Sun recently got lucky and found a piece of a tourist, which they could then sell for $ 2000. Unfortunately, the information center was closed because it was Saturday again once. So we first visited an old mine that was discovered by accident back in 1968.

P1010133 Since the Opalgestein is up to 25 meters in depth, they each had to dig deep holes to get to the precious stone. The miners were aimed directly at the apartment many of the mine. Down there it was cool, which in this heat here was certainly a great advantage. Even today, the houses are often embedded in the rock. Fireplaces everywhere suddenly rise from the ground. At the end of the mine passage, you can then view or buy opals and, of course. But with prices up to $ 40,000, we left it when watching.

IMG_3334 Then we went to our campsite. Nearby, three were women, German, traveling with a Wicked Camper. These are brightly painted VW buses, you can rent. Helen took the opportunity to read the book by another exchange, it was two pages served.

We shall see tomorrow Now, what if there are too noodeln.
