The birthday of Helene began with a morning coffee in bed. The rest of the breakfast we were saving for us to Timaru. We cleared everything after coffee together, Michi was still short by to say goodbye and then we drove into the city. Along the way we bought a shopping center still in Timaru, which we missed yesterday.
Then we came to the city and parked at the library parking lot. As usual, almost at a library, we tried the Wifi, and in fact it was free, so we surfed for a while, 20 minutes, read mails called away, and invited a few tiles. The breakfast we took in a little coffee. Helene ordered an omelet with ham and I took three toast with butter and jam, pancakes with maple syrup and 3.
Then we went to the museum. There we found many images from the early days, the somewhat sad story of Richard Pears (1877 - 1953) take a somewhat introverted engineers and aviation pioneer. Apparently he had actually done it without further assistance, 31 March 1903, ie, nine months before the Wright brothers to make a leap into the air in his self-made aircraft. Unfortunately, all this can not be proven so right, so that the history books were not rewritten until now. Popular in those days he was not in Timaru. He was mocked as "Mad Spears' means.
Then we drove on Highway 6 towards Burke Pass in Fairlie, we made a short stop, we picked one to go Cappuccio and photographed the statue of the Scotsman James Mackenzie and his dog Friday. According to the story he began in the early days as a farmer. Apparently he stole 1,000 sheep, and then he came out only because there was a black sheep among them, which was the original farmer at heart. He was arrested a few times and fled the sound back often. His exploits were retold by the poorer people, and his statue now looks towards Mackenzie Pass, which carries his name.
The Burke Pass to 705 m is not a huge hill, but an impressive open area in the highlands. A gigantic plane traversed by a river and surrounded by mountains.
In the middle of the plateau in the Lake Tekapo have, a turquoise lake from which one can not take my eyes. First we sat on a rock and waited for the sun rays that illuminate how the trees were growing in the lake.
A little away is the Church of the Good Shepherd. A small chapel with a beautiful view from the interior of the lake. It is a very popular place for tying the knot, and a tourist magnet.
Then we drove around the Mount John, and took the path up to him. Up there is the Mt John Observatory. On the nondescript hill has a spectacular panoramic view of the plateau. You can see Lake Tekapo, Lake Gregory and Lake Alexandrina and the length of the plane. Several telescope houses stand on the hill. Moreover, on top of a small coffee with the best sandwiches that I had ever eaten. Helen bought me a present there (for her birthday - how twisted) of this coffee. To purchase a T-shirt, which I also thought that there had not said.
We drove back down and later on towards Lake Gregory. There had been a kind of wild Campground, but not promised us the Sun We drove back to where the road leads back to the route to Lake Tekapo. A camper outside of nowhere far inspired us to have a place here, and not seek to place in front of the campground. So we parked our Toyota in the wild grass, which is at higher Seestand bog and were happy about the special place of accommodation.
We quickly realized that these campers, compared with the 4 × 4 campers in Australia, much more hergibt of ambience. We have space, gas stove inside, visibility and a sturdy roof. This pleased us especially since it has quite a wind here. We pulled out our wine purchased, took out the Yahtzee and played and drank until it was time to cook.
Helene had given me a movement ban, including the dinner so I took the dishes themselves. She was reading her book while I was preparing everything. It was about time we had done up to that already 3 / 4 of the bottle. We had a lot of fun and realized that this car hergibt much, if you will in nothing camped. It comes in a great mood (I'm not talking about the wine) because the living area offers room and cozy effect.
